| What is
"Bartender" |
| |
"Bartender" is the name of a software package
produced by an independent company - Seagull Scientific - that Citizen
recommends for use with its label and barcode printers. |
|
| |
|
What is difference
between the different versions of Bartender?

| Please explain the
"Trial" features in the Ultralight Edition? |
| |
 |
Bartender UltraLight Trial
Software
- Bartender UltraLight is a trial edition of the world's leading label design
software package.
- Produced by Seagull Scientific who are acknowledged as the best software
company in their class.
- Bartender UltraLight is supplied by Citizen free on request with their
printers.
|
 |
So what can it do?
- If you want to design simple labels, the free software will work forever and you will never need to
upgrade. Either disable or do not use the 'trial' features.
- If your labels are more complex, you can try out the 'extra' features for
30 days to see if you like them (or need them.)
- If you don't need them, you can disable them (see below) and the program will then work forever.
- If you need the extra features, you can upgrade your software. Contact your
dealer for more information.
|
 |
How do I know what is
"Trial"?
- The image left shows examples of trial features enabled.
- To disable the trial features or change the configuration, choose
the "Trial Features..." option from the Bartender "File"
menu.
|
|
| |
|
| What happen after 30 days in
"Trial Mode" |
| |
- The software randomly replaces one character in an item on the label, e.g.
the word "Citizen" would become "Citizyn".
- This does not mean that the program cannot be used any more, simply
that some of the more advanced features are no longer available.
- Bartender UltraLite allows you to print the more common barcodes after the
30 days without the 'replacement' but for example, you cannot print 2D type
barcodes, use the database facilities or the serial number incrimination.
- Under the File Menu on Bartender, there is an option called "Trial
Options". Within this allows you to Hide the trial sections completely.
The end result is a slightly limited but fully working version of Bartender.
- If you wish to move over to the full version of Bartender after your month
using the UltraLite version please contact your dealer or Seagull Scientific.

| Where can I get the
Citizen CLP Driver from? |
| |
The Citizen (Seagull) Driver comes on the same CD
as Bartender Lite Software and can be installed either during the Bartender
install process or by using the Windows Add Printer function.
You can always download the latest Citizen Drivers produced by Seagull from our
web site. Click here to jump the driver's section.
Seagull Scientific make sure, wherever possible, that their drivers are always
compliant with any new release of Windows as soon as they are released. However
as the drivers are always under review, it is sometimes the case that the
driver version supplied on the CD is not the same as that on either the Citizen
or Seagull Scientific web sites.
In most cases the changes to the driver will be minimal and so an earlier
version of driver is not too important should you install it from the CD rather
than using the web site version. Please note, if you have an earlier version of
the driver, it is often good practice to remove any/all Seagull Scientific
drivers using the windows remove function, before installing a new
version of the driver on your PC. |
| |
|
| Can I use the Citizen Printer driver in
other software packages than Bartender |
| |
We have tested the Citizen (Seagull Scientific)
driver using several of the better-known packages available, Teklynx, Codesoft
and Labelview for example and they have worked well. Many of these other
software houses hardcode their drivers into their systems, however as the
Citizen (Seagull) driver is a fully compliment Windows driver it can be
installed as usual into these packages as well (providing they are windows
based) and work along side the hard coded drivers.
Of course, the Citizen Seagull drivers work very well with common packages such
as Word, Excel, Access and even Photoshop or Acrobat - essentially any standard
Windows package. |
| |
|
| The program I am using seems to make the
printer print differently to the settings I have in the printer. |
| |
As a general rule, settings on the printer,
whether it be a dot matrix printer (DMP) or a Barcode printer will be over
written by any software settings in the driver.
Only some of our Barcode printers have the option to "lock out" the
ability of the driver (computer) to change settings. The CLP 404, 1, 2, 4 and
6000 series printers do not have the option available in the printer to
ignore certain incoming commands.
The CLP 521, CLP 7200e series, CLP 8301 and 9000 series have a menu option on
the control panel or VuePrint menu system which allows the switching ON and OFF
of a Settings Lock. This option when switched ON allows these
printers to ignore certain commands sent from the software.
On the CLP 521, 9000, 8301, this is referred to as the "Settings
Lock" function. On the CLP7200e series, this is the "SetLckOn"
or "SetLckOf" function.
If you are having problems setting up your printer and software to work
correctly, remember the following rules or tips:
- Settings in the driver (computer) will always over-ride the settings in the
printer
- If you still have problems, try quitting the program you are using (e.g.
Word, Bartender) and make changes to the printer configuration by going through
"Start -> Control Panel -> Printers -> Properties/Document
Defaults" for the particular printer. Once you have made these changes,
re-start the particular program you are using, e.g. Word or Bartender. You
should not need to do this but this is a 'guaranteed' way of making your
changes / configuration work.
