FAST, RELIABLE AND STRESS-FREE WRISTBAND PRINTING WITH CITIZEN PRINTERS The latest range of printers from Citizen Systems Europe, the leading manufacturer of high quality dot matrix, label and barcode printers, offer superior printing of wristbands and labels in a wide range of medical applications. The latest printers are fast, reliable, and stress-free, enabling medical staff to produce wrist bands quickly and simply, without the need for special training or the use of complicated equipment and proprietary materials. To date, few printers have been designed specifically for producing wristbands, with the result that the materials used become tangled, while the print media can clog, requiring the printer unit to be disassembled and wasting valuable staff time. Additionally, in many units, even the lowest adjustment point is often still not narrow enough to handle narrow paediatric wristbands successfully, again causing misfeeds and jamming. By comparison, the latest Citizen printers have been designed specifically for printing wristbands and feature a large media holder plate, securely pressing and aligning the media against the printer’s case. It also has a fully adjustable sensor to ensure that both shaped and narrow labels or wristbands as small as 13mm in width can be handled efficiently. Citizen offers a range of printers, designated CLP521, CLP521Z, CLP621 and CLP621Z, and giving medical staff a choice between direct thermal printing (with no ribbon) and thermal transfer printing (with a ribbon). Direct thermal printing removes the need regularly to load replacement ribbons, avoiding the security issues surrounding the disposal of used ribbon, which might contain confidential patient data. Although direct thermal media is more expensive than that required for thermal transfer printing the money saved by not having to buy ribbon can offset the initial outlay. In comparison, thermal transfer printing uses a thermal film ribbon and is compatible with a wider, and less expensive, range of media. Although images printed by the direct thermal method can last for months or sometimes years, those printed by thermal transfer have an even longer life span and are potentially chemical resistant or dry-cleanable. Each of the printers is also ideal for X-ray or document labelling, pharmaceutical re-labelling, and bedside specimen labelling, as well as for printing patient wristbands and patient record labels. Citizen offers a wide range of labels for use with their printers, including card media suitable for printing shelf tags in storerooms and temporary staff badges, small adhesive labels for sample or test tube labelling, wristbands for both conventional barcodes and 2D barcodes for maximised data, and media designed for re-labelling medicines in order to comply with new regulations or computer systems. The printers are available with either Ethernet or wireless LAN (WiFi) options, both of which fit internally. Wireless LAN cards are easy for any IT department to upgrade or swap themselves, and an Ethernet module can be installed in minutes or pre-installed and pre-configured by any dealer. The CLP521 and CLP621 are fully compatible with Datamax® printers, and the CLP521Z and CLP621Z are fully Zebra® compatible. The Citizen CLP521 is fully certified by Meditech.
